When she was 5 and half I noticed she started to smell a bit funky under her armpits. She's now 6 and half and she has to use deodorant!.

She doesn't have any signs of puberty so that's a relief.but she is highly intelligent for her age and is well above expectations for her age..

Why would she start smelling so young

Some kids do. If she has no other signs of puberty I wouldn't worry. Just daily washing and fresh clothes should be fine.

My youngest, now 9, is definitely the stinkiest of my 3DC. Worse than her 15yo brother

We have daily “pit inspection” in the summer, regularly in the rest of the year,

Mitchum deodorant is great, very gentle but effective. I use it every morning after a shower and feel fresh all day. They do roll on, spray or the stick type

DD was a stinkbomb at 6 and still would be at 10 if not for regular deodorant. Her breast buds are developing and she has a bit of armpit hair now but it wasn't a sign of early puberty. DS (11) is still totally stink free!

DD, now 9 started needing deodorant a couple of years ago, no signs of early puberty either.

I bought her a mineral deodorant from Holland and Barrett, because I am not keen on her using anti perspirants or smelly body sprays, and it has been working great

Is she very active? My 7yo DS has been prone to being smelly for a couple of years now, but he is very active and sweats very easily. Running around at lunch apparently regularly leaves him red faced and with a wet face and head. He’s regularly active, healthy and slim, he just seems to be that way. But I think that’s why he gets smelly easily. Regular washing with proper soap or antibacterial soap (like Cidal or Shield), fresh clothes daily, I also use Dettol laundry in the wash which is great for sweaty clothes. We don’t use deodorant at the moment but this works for us.

If she does get sweaty watch out for rashes or fungal problems, DS has had some minor issues behind one ear just from getting too sweaty but we manage to usually avoid it with more thorough washing behind the ears with soap.

Younger DS on the other hand who is also very active hardly gets sweaty apart from in really hot weather and has never smelled. Some people’s bodies are just different in this regard.
