Broken elbow and failed operations girl aged 6

My granddaughter broke her elbow 6 months ago but all interventions have failed, and now her right arm movement is compromised. She is 6 and healthy but we need an 'elbow specialist' in the UK or a specialist book and quickly because she is growing so fast. I probably have a legal case but the priority is medical reassurance. Any names or advice very welcome.

My DD broke her elbow last autumn and we were pointed towards (by
an adult orthopaedic surgeon we knew) Peter Calder as a paediatric orthopaedic specialist with good elbow experience. We never ended up seeing him in the end but he may be a good option for you.

Good luck.

PS he works in London both privately and with the NHS.

I broke my elbow when I was 11, I’ve never had full movement back since the first op where I had pins put in my elbow to keep it together. I’ve never had these removed as my elbow was too fragile for this.

My parents say it’s down to it being set in a cast after my first op. I’m now 27 and I’ve had 13 operations on it to date, mainly keyhole but I’ve had the whole back of my arm opened and I’ve had it broken under anaesthetic twice and had two ops on my wrist last year due to the lack of movement in my elbow causing the bones in my wrist to grow unevenly so I had to have them trimmed too.
I’ve had several braces through my teens, I’ve had it put in a vice, had hydrotherapy, wax baths and more physio than hot dinners! In secondary school I had to go out at lunch for physio everyday and twice a week to hydrotherapy.
I’ve never been able to straighten my arm fully and I’ve never been able to touch my shoulder on the same side since my accident.
I started off nhs and then moved privately under my mums work policy so I’ve had all sorts of specialists look at it.
I’ve got quite bad arthritis in it and I regularly have key hole to remove bits from the joint from wear.

I am an engineer in a quarry so I’ve never let the lack of movement stop me. I manage the pain by myself - limited to how strong a painkiller I can take due to nature of my job.

It’s never crossed mine or my parents mind to take legal action though as I’ve coped very well with it.
