General anaesthetic 5yo

So Ds (5) had a general anaesthetic on Monday for a circumcison. He is on daily calpol & neurofen for pain relief. When he came round on Monday he had a slight rash on his face. Today I have noticed it getting worse and has spread to his back and torso. Could it be the anaesthetic? Or something else?

It's now 2 days post surgery unlikely to be the GA. does he have some plaster or dressing on the area?

Kaypee28 · 04/03/2020 22:22

@BabyST no nothing. It's strange.

If you push it, does it blanch (go white) or stay red ish. White is good, red is call 111. Does he have a fever? Can you post a picture of the rash

It’s probably just an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic, I had one after having a GA, saw a doctor who told me it was very common and to take some antihistamines, it went away after a few days.

That does look like an allergic reaction. Keep going with the piriton for a few days, you want to knock it right down. Then make sure that the GP finds out what anesthetic they used and puts it as an allergy on his medical record (and also tell whoever you use for his chemist in case of cross reactions with other drugs in the same class). They will need to be VERY careful if he ever has a general again. You will also need to tell any doctors going forward as they are crap at checking for drug allergies.
