Baby choking on salvia/reflux?

Hi my DS is 4 weeks old and this evening had what I would consider a choking episode but on his own salvia. There seems to be an excessive amount and it was coming out his nose when he was panicking etc. Very scary for me and my hubby. He has for the past few weeks made goat like noises and grunting when laid on his back and sometimes goes red in the face and looks in pain. Any ideas? He does also seems congested xx

Does he have a cold? Or maybe still mucus from birth. Was he born by c section by any chance? Have you tried a nasal aspirator to see if anything comes out?

Red face, pained look sounds like he could be having a bowel movement.

He had a vaginal birth and was mucusy for the first few days but this was yellow in colour. This saliva is clear , could still be mucus? He does have loads of bogeys up his nose but the nasal aspirator has been no use as the congestion seems to be further up at the back of his mouth/nose. Would a saline solution help?

Maybe reflux, I'd go to the GP if I was you. Poor little one.

My DD has mucus for ages. It just kept coming. Most of it was clear. She was born by section, which can apparently make it worse. My GP said the mucus can last for up to 6 months and will only clear when she feeds and coughs it up.

If it was reflux, either nothing would come out, or milk.

It does sound scary though, so if you're at all worried see GP or health visitors are medically trained and are usually pretty knowledgable about babies.
