My DS was poorly on Monday, we took him to docs and he has tonsillitis and was on penicillin for it until weds, when he came up with a rash. I called the docs and they said he may be allergic to penicillin (as I was as a child) , or sometimes tonsillitis can can bring out a rash so it's hard to tell. They wrote a new prescription for a different antibiotic.

He's still got the rash, I think il take him back to the doctors tomorrow morning. Does anyone know what it is most likely to be? If it were antibiotics with penicillin surely they would be out of his system now? He last took them weds am but not a full spoonful a was fighting it!

It could just be a viral / post viral rash, which is common in little children when they have been unwell (even if it is a bacterial infection).

What does the rash feel like? If it's very rough and sandpapery it could be scarlet fever. Check your DS's tongue. If it is red/white/bumpy that might also point to scarlet fever.

If you think it might be SF you should contact your GP, although it sounds as though he's already taking antibiotics, so treatment would be the same.

Hope he feels better soon :)

You would be better off taking him to your local pharmacy. I wouldn't even bother going back to the GP as they are all a waste of time (god knows why they are paid so much, no wonder the NHS is in tatters!). All the best x

It takes a while for the rash to go, just try some calamine if he's ok otherwise.
