Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone might recognise these little spots that have appeared on one side of my daughter's body - sort of under the arm bit but also down from there. There are about 4 or 5 of them now and they started appearing a few weeks ago. She's not in any pain and at a closer inspection that may be have a little bit of pus inside, though hard to tell. Some larger ones and also the beginnings of one or two deeper int the arm pit. NHS online advice suggests one cause may be friction, but I'm not entirely sure.

It looks like Molloscum contagiosum. They are tricky to get rid of. Try to discourage scratching as they spread.

Molluscum contagiosum maybe

You will find loads of stuff online about how to try to get rid of them. We found that the most effective way was to carefully squeeze out the white core inside, clean the empty molloscum with tea tree oil, but you have to be super careful as the core is the contagious bit. And it can be slightly painful leading to squirmy children.

One of my DCs had this very badly and took 4 years to get rid of (NHS says most cases clear up in 18 months but my DCs immune system didn't seem able to fight it off. Other DCs also caught it but it cleared up much more quickly. Don't share towels.

Thanks everyone for responding. Yep that seems about right. Slightly unsure of what to do in terms of squeezing or not (othe rmedical advice and official advice suggests leave alone and it doesn't feel right to squeeze them and spread the infection) so will prob leave alone and see how it goes

Thanks again though for the advice and reassuring words

Best of luck, hopefully your daughter's immune system will fight them off. This is usually the case but it can take quite a while. It's very frustrating.

Sometimes the molloscum can become inflamed and angry like a nasty pimple. It's a good idea to have a supply of little round plasters (like the ones GPs give you after a jab) to cover the molloscum if it looks likely to erupt to discourage it from spreading.
