Hi all

I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this my little boy is 2.5 years old. My little boy isn't unwell however I can feel and see his lymph nodes when he turns is neck. My concern is that these feel really hard and I didn't think that was normal? I thought they should be squidgy? They do get bigger and smaller but never seem to go away. I'm going to get him checked out Monday but just wondering if anyone has come across this, I can see and feel them nearly all of the time.

Worried mummy

Xx

I don’t yet have a child but I can tell you from experience personally that this is completely ok and nothing to worry about most the time but yes get him checked anyway, but I have this and have done since being a toddler . If I turn you can see solid balls on either side of my neck , they’re painless but very hard to touch x

My son had the exact same thing, visible lymph node in his neck for a long time even when not poorly. The GP agreed with me that it seemed strange and referred him to be seen at the hospital. The hospital consultant checked him over extremely thoroughly, took a full history and said some people just have lymph nodes that enlarge due to a virus then never go down. He said from my GPs description of the size he had expected to be ordered bloods and a biopsy but that he was sure it was fine. He was adamant that if it was something serious we'd see some other sign. DS is now 2.5yrs and I can still see it when he turns his neck but he's fine and it was about 15 months ago we saw the consultant. I googled it afterwards and saw lots and lots of forum posts with people describing similar things.

Best to get it checked out but I think it can often be normal and not sinister. I've never felt so awful as when I was waiting for the consultant appointment though and it came through really quickly.

Thank you for your reply, yes he had a really bad virus about 6 months ago and his nodes flared up so bad it took them a long time to go down but I can still see them which is what worries me and the fact that they are hard. Scary isn't it, no one tells you about these things what might be normal or not when you have little ones xx

We noticed this with my daughter when she was 4. Took her straight to GP who eventually because of my panicking referred us to the hospital where they did blood tests and the consultant there thoroughly examined her and said the same that it's just one of those things that might never disappear ended up seeing another consultant because I was still concerned and he said the same. 3 and a half years later I can still see it especially when she turns her neck but there is no change in size or feel and no other symptoms so guessing they were right x
