Uti

My 1 year old was diagnosed with a uti on Thursday, given a course of antibiotics, she still had a very high temperature today and shivery so phoned the doctors. They said to discontinue use of that antibiotics and have given us another to start.

She's just gone down for the night but her temperature is 39.9, she's not due any calpol and I've read that you can't give ibuprofen when you have a uti.

I've no idea what to do to cool her down?

I've not read anything to say you can't take ibuprofen for a UTI. Just that if it is a kidney infection to avoid it. If she is sleeping I'd leave her to sleep. However, with a temp that high i'd keep a close eye.

The children's ward gave my DD ibuprofen for a UTI when her temp was that high. Try and alternate so she's always got domet medicine in her system. I found the antibiotics took 24 hours to work, she was given trimethoprim

Thanks, I've been in touch with a pharmacy who said absolutely not to the ibuprofen. Luckily, her temp is down to the low 38s now so fingers crossed it doesn't get that high again. She's almost due her next dose of calpol but I'm waiting it out as she's been quite unsettled and finally sleeping well now

How is your DD this morning OP?

HakunaMutataa · 22/02/2020 17:59

Thanks for asking, she's still not well, temp still up and down, she's at 40 just now. Called 111 and been into the children's ward today but they want to give the antibiotics until Monday to work. I just hate it when she gets to hot and shivery. She's asleep just now so hoping for a more settled night than last night.

If your readying anything online I would stick to the NHS website. Then at least you know the info is accurate. The antibiotics take 48 hours to get into a persons system so don't expect DC to be back to normal overnight. If there temp is up then just take off there clothes. Sounds like rigorors which is the body's way of trying to cool it's self

Sorry it hear she's not much better OP. Goes without saying but if any doubt at all, please get her seen again.
