Squint surgery....

My dd has been told she needs squint surgery on an urgent basis due to it getting worse quickly. She is 11 and now has constant pure double vision. Her actually vision is fab though. Currently she’s in patched glasses
Her measurement was 35 dioptres difference. (Her eyes fall to the outside)

Can anyone explain this to me? And how extreme is this measurement? The ophthalmologist said he sees 2500 patients but only 1 a year like this.....
I thought it was common?? Or is it the measurement that’s the rare bit??

I can't answer the specifics of your question, but wanted to say that I had this surgery as a adult when my double vision worsened with age.
I had the surgery on one eye only and although it improved my vision according to their specific vision tests after the op, in reality it did not make enough difference. I still had squint/double vision and this has continued to worsen in the 5 years since I had the surgery. In addition, since the surgery, I have had the problem that whilst an eye test might determine I need a prism of 8, when the glasses arrive I can't see in them and am not safe to drive. The opticians/ hospital opthalmologists explain this as "my brain can not tolerate" this amount of prism. This means getting new glasses is a nightmare because they seem never to be right and keep having to be sent back for new lenses . I absolutely dread going to the opticians 🙁
