Is this normal. I was just breast feeding and I noticed this circular mark. I’ve never noticed it before. Couldn’t find anything on google.
Thanks!

The circle almost looks like the same colour as the rest of the tongue so maybe its just that the white patch left out the circle?

The white patch could be milk or it could be thrush.

If it stays like that I'd see the GP.

I think those happen usually when its a bit sore, dc is a bit rundown and tend to disappear over a few days with not much ado. BUT.. his teeth are so cute Smile

Dandelionrarrrr · 20/02/2020 13:30

Oh thanks ladies.
He’s slightly run down but not too bad. I’ll keep an eye on him and see if it fades.

His teeth aren’t that cute when they are clenched down on my arm or worse my boob!!

My DS had this for months. Doctor and dentist weren't worried. He takes inhalers so they thought it might be related to that. It went eventually.

recordbox · 21/02/2020 19:40

An ulcer?

dancemom · 21/02/2020 19:44

It's a taste bud falling off.

SleepyNightOwl · 21/02/2020 19:47

dancemom They do that?

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 21/02/2020 20:02

It's not a taste but falling off!

It looks like an ulcer to me, but it's an unusual place for one.

What Flosslets had sounds like median rhomboid glossitis. It's associated with people who use inhalers, and is thought to be related to thrush.

It could be something like that?

I would keep an eye on it. If it's not getting better after 2 weeks get them into the GP or dentist.

GaaaaarlicBread · 21/02/2020 20:07

I have the same thing OP and always have, and I’m 25. My dr says it’s a geographical tongue !

SirVixofVixHall · 21/02/2020 20:10

I also have Geographical tongue !
I think it looks more like some wear to the surface, probably from the nipple moving back and forth when breastfeeding ?
Have vague memory of my dd having similar.

Suzie81 · 23/02/2020 20:20

As above, isn't this just where the nipple causes pressure on the surface? Presumably this "polishes" the area, giving the circular mark?

Hitsnooze · 23/02/2020 20:28

My daughter had this on the side of her tongue but was quite dark. Disappeared after a few days. Assume it was a blister or she bit herself as she had just cut two teeth

Dinkydonut1 · 19/09/2021 19:17

@Dandelionrarrrr hi, sorry to jump on such an old thread, I was just wondering, did you ever find out what this was? My 2 year old has the same thing x

Dandelionrarrrr · 19/09/2021 19:46

Hey, unfortunately no. I didn’t get it checked out but it appeared to just resolve itself. Not sure how long it took but it didn’t bother him all the same. Hopefully you’ll have a similar experience
