Irritable Hip - Day 6 - 11 month old

My little boy is nearly 11 months old and was diagnosed with irritable hip 6 days ago. We have open access to pead's until tomorrow - day 7.

He is still exactly the same as he was Day 1. Non weight bearing, limited movement, he will sit and reach for toys but not crawl towards them and no chance of him standing / cruising on it. He is seemly in a lot of pain, lots of crying, irritable, temperature sits around 38, he has had regular calpol / ibuprofen.

I spoke to the doctor again on Day 4 and they suggested to carry on the with the 'watch and wait' approach.

He hasn't had bloods / X-rays purely diagnosed by physical examination. He had bronchiolitis 3 weeks ago and a bout of impetigo 10 days ago, in which he has been on antibiotics for. He finished his antibiotics yesterday.

Should I take him back tomorrow or carry on as we are muddling through with the regular pain relief?!

It's horrible seeing him in such pain and so reluctant to move but at the same time I don't want to waste doctors time if this is a case of just waiting for it to ease and get better!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Speak to paeds again. Day 7 still with a fever, no improvement and a recent history of bacterial infection would warrant further investigation, considering alternative diagnoses such as septic arthritis.

Thank you, I did take him back and bloods and scan have confirmed it is septic arthritis.
