Chicken Pox remedies please!

DD (7) came down with chicken pox 3 days ago and whilst she seemed to be coping fine initially the itchiness seems to have got worse as the spots have become all blistered.

Any tried and tested methods/creams to help? The pharmacist was pretty bloody useless when I asked for some help so hoping the MN Army can help!

fine-ground oatmeal baths seem to help with the itching and with soothing skin x

Virasoothe helped a lot. It's available over the counter from many pharmacies.

Our twins had an horrific case last year and we tried everything on the market. Here’s what worked for us:

Baths with the aveeno oatmeal sachets (you can put oats in a sock but it’s nowhere near as effective) and classic head and shoulders as bubblebath

Eurax cream - none of the stuff sold for chicken pox helped them but this did

Phenergan elixir (antihistamine) - try piriton liquid first as it’s now as powerful and Phenergan is quite sedating but because of this it really helped them sleep. Only have half a dose.

Second both of the above recommendations - I put a scoop of porridge oats in a muslin in a nice warm bath for DS when he had it, it turns the water silky smooth and he loved it! Wouldn't get out the bath as it did help sooth the skin

PoxClin - Its really easy to apply as its like a foam. was brilliant when DD has the Pox

I think so much depends on the child too. Poxclin and virasoothe just did nothing for our two, piriton didn’t either. We gradually tried out different things over the affected month (one after the other) and found what worked for us. If you can afford it, just get the lot and try it all.

DT1 had more blisters but DT2 ended up with a very scary secondary infection. They’re both non verbal so it was hard to know what was going on but

keep an eye out for any red patches surrounding them, swelling and heat.

How’s she doing? Hope she can sleep, poor girl. Chicken pox is horrible.

Calamine lotion was what we used ( 20 years ago).

I deeply remember a family camping holiday, warming calamine lotion over a gas ring in the trailer tent in rainy Yorkshire. Fortunately the toddlers chickenpox was not too bad. And the baby's spots didn't come out until we were home.
