Occasional morning vomiting in 6 year old

Dd (6) had reflux as a baby, but since then has been fine and healthy other than eczema. A few days before Christmas (after a day of excess food the day before ) she woke up early and was sick a few times, but completely fine by 10ish. We assumed a big.

Then a week later it happened again (also after a day of more than usual treats)

A couple of weeks passed and the same thing again. We decided to take her to the doctor if it happened again, but she was fine until this morning when she has woken up and been sick again.

It’s always preceded by stomach cramps, she goes really pale, then is sick once or twice whilst seeming really lethargic, only to be completely fine about an hour or so later. Always mornings.

I’m wondering if it’s a lactose intolerance (though she does have milk daily, she may be having more on the day before she is sick). I can’t see any pattern in food particularly - possibly chocolate, but she never has lots. There seems to be too much of a gap for it to be an allergy. Vomit is clear, no sign of bile or blood. No fever.

I thought it could be low blood sugar, but she feels better long before she has something to eat.

Cyclical vomiting syndrome is what google has suggested, but just wondered if MN hive mind has any other suggestions? Coeliac maybe?

We have an appointment with GP this Thursday, but wanted to go with an idea of what it could be and what referrals may help.

TIA

My ds had cyclical vomiting syndrome. Started when he was about 7 and always happened early morning 6,7am ish. He would vomit on and off for a few hours, usually fall asleep then be fine again. My GP didn't really take it seriously but I asked to be referred to a paediatric gastroenterologist who diagnosed him. He got anti sickness medication that he had to use as soon as he felt sick which helped a little bit. He would be sick every few weeks to few months until he was 16 when it just suddenly stopped. He's 20 now.

Could it be migraines?

AvocadosAteMyHamster · 19/02/2020 06:39

Thank you Chester. That’s really helpful. I’m glad he grew out of it eventually.

They could be migraines without headaches, certainly worth considering. Thanks Elisheva

@LostittoBostik it’s probably long-sorted, but just in case…

dd was diagnosed as having an irritable stomach lining. GP prescribed gaviscon in the evening and it was linked to rich food. If I remember correctly it was triggered by some kind of virus and lasted a few months. The gaviscon helped (we’d give it of an evening and it pretty much stopped her vomiting in the morning). We also reduced rich foods for her. Leaving this here in case it helps anyone.

Thanks @AvocadosAteMyHamster- we did see the GP and they put in a query to the local paeds about prescribing something for stomach acid as that was their conclusion too.

it’s only happened once in the last two months and I think it was due to rich food so this is helpful. She seems to get loose bowels about 24 hour after the nausea too so I do think it’s something gastric rather than anxiety
