Threadworms

SiLs are visiting for half term, just found out one of their kids has threadworms. What can I do to protect my DS (he's 16 months old) ?

Ensure everyone washes their hands, especially before eating. Just strict hygiene really. My 4 year old has had them twice in the last year (joys of nursery!) and the baby (now 16 months) didn’t get them either time.

Cancel the visit. SIL stays at home and treats the whole family.

I gather they have treated everyone in their household and not just the one affected child? If not tell her to do so before they arrive as some people can have them without symptoms. One treatment can take about 3 days for them to pass through. Make sure they wear underwear to bed. Make sure to give them their own towels and wash them as well as bedclothes as soon as they leave. And maybe just prevent her kids from being too hands on with your dc.

Thanks everyone
@StopGo sadly they're already here since yesterday, and just found out now

Wait, does that mean ALL of us need to be treated now????! @Drum2018 @StopGo

The advice is for everyone in the family to be treated (we’ve never done that, as DS was too young, and I was breastfeeding, which apparently is contraindicated).

BanoffeePi · 16/02/2020 21:25

@nomorespaghetti yeah it would be a nightmare trying to treat us all coz I'm breastfeeding too and there's currently 6 kids and 5 adults under one roof atm... Talk about full house 😅

Well at least make sure the family of the affected child are all treated.

StopGo · 16/02/2020 21:56

@BanoffeePi yes you all need to be treated. I)m sorry I thought they were due and not arrived.
