Should I take DD to see someone?

DD is 3 years old. We've all been unwell this week with, what I think is flu. DD has had a fever since Monday, but it does come down with ibuprofen (she always responds better to ibuprofen than paracetamol). Yesterday lunchtime she fell asleep for an hour or so, woke up with a fever of 40.8, had some ibuprofen and went back to sleep for a couple of hours. Her temp took a while to come down but then she woke up, had some toast and was chatty for a little while. Then she curled up on the sofa around 5pm and fell asleep. Around 6pm her temp was up again, so I gave her some more medication and then she asked for some milk and to go to bed. She slept until 3am. Then came in to my bed and she's been sleeping on and off since then. She's woken up to drink some water every now and then and she's had some more ibuprofen when her temp went up to 38.9.

Her breathing is clear. Actually better than it has been the past few days where she'd been coughing a lot. Her temp is now 38.7. I have a sat monitor and her sats and heart rate are both ok. She is sleeping loads, but she's not difficult to wake up. She just rolls over and goes back to sleep. She wears a pull up at night and that was wet. She's been drinking but it's nearly 24 hours since she ate something.

I'm swinging between thinking she needs to be seen because she's sleeping pretty much constantly, to thinking that I know her sats and HR are fine, her temp is responding to medication, she's drinking and she just needs to be left to sleep so give her body a chance to recover.

What would do you?

I'd call 111 if you're worried, but the fact that she's drinking and her temp comes down means I don't think you need to worry too much, just sounds like a nasty bug of which there's a lot about

Why do you have a sats monitor?

allthesharks · 16/02/2020 12:24

Her older sister has chronic lung disease. Her respiratory consultant recommended we have one.

Whoops posted too soon. Was going to say, I wouldn’t be taking her somewhere right now but would be hoping to see some improvement by tomorrow, if not I think I would take her to see someone then.

zelbazinnamon · 16/02/2020 12:25

allthesharks ah right, I thought you might be a medic but then I thought you wouldn’t be asking on here!

LondonUnited · 16/02/2020 12:28

I would have her seen at this point, yes - six days of fever is a long time, plus 40.8 is really high. It could be a bacterial infection following on from the flu? 111 should be able to advise. Hope she is on the mend soon!

allthesharks · 16/02/2020 12:28

That's what I was thinking @zelbazinnamon, if no improvement by tomorrow I'll definitely take her to the GP.

She was coughing pretty much constantly through the night earlier in the week, I don't think she was getting very restful sleep, so maybe she's just absolutely shattered and making up for it now.

Her temp is now down to 37.5. Sats are good. HR is good. I think sleep is just what she needs. I just woke her up to ask if she wanted anything to eat and she shouted "No!" at me in her typical stroppy three year old way!

I do think she's ok. Just exhausted.

How’s she doing today?
