Now, I'm pretty sure I'm being dramatic. But my son has been quite ill recently and in hospital for most of January with recurrent (different) infections.
For the last 3/4 days he has suddenly started drinking and weeing a lot more than usual. He's eating a lot also and getting a bit moody on and off with no apparent cause.
Anyway- I've dipped his urine as I have sticks at home and all appeared fine. My question is - could he still have diabetes even though his urine showed no ketones or glucose?

FWIW, he is having follow up immune tests by the infectious disease team in a few weeks following his stay in hospital.

Please help me relax. I want to take him the gp to do a finger prick test but will they even do that?

I had to push for my son to be blood tested for his first infection as was fobbed of with it being viral- he was admitted immediately and was quite seriously ill. So on one hand I realise I'm now that parent. But on the other I'm terrified something's been missed and I'm not doing anything.

How long has the increased hunger/thirst been going on for? As he's been unwell for a while he may just be making up for lost time and rediscovering his appetite? If the urine dip was ok, that's a good sign that his blood sugars are normal. Small children get very sick pretty quickly with T1 diabetes -- as well as increased thirst/hunger other signs would be sleeping more, mood changes, generally unwell...
