High temp; to send to school?

My son has had the last three days off school. He was born quite premature at 28 weeks, his lungs aren't great!! He's 8 now. Still suffers with croup etc.

He's had a chesty cough for a couple weeks. Dr won't do anything.

Temperature has been quite high last three days. Today it's been high but he's been himself; not sleepy etc playing fine (he has adhd, I know when he's really poorly as he just sleeps and is very quiet!!)

So I took his temp before bed tonight, just to check. It's 38.7! I wasn't expecting that. I was going to send him back to school tomorrow, as he's been himself today! Also I have such an important day at uni tomorrow.... I know my child's health is more important but like I say.. he's been fine.

Google says that I should keep a child off if they have a high temp...

What would you do? If they were fine in themselves? His cough is stlll there slightly but not as bad as it was...

I’m afraid I wouldn’t send him in with a temperature. Having a fever makes you feel lousy so I wouldn’t think school a good plan.

I know my child's health is more important

What about the health of other people's children? If he's running a temperature there's a fair chance he's got something infectious which he might pass on.

He definitely doesn't seem like his feeling lousy at all!

I do agree with the other children though. I wouldn't want other children to have it. Guess I was being selfish in the thought! Sucks being a single mum! Really needed to be at uni tomorrow.

Why don't you re take his temperature in the morning? There's still like 12 hours before school. Also like you say he's been fine, would you of taken his temperature if he hadn't been poorly before? You would never of know etc.

Unfortunately, he needs to be off school. It's not fair on him if still unwell and it's not fair on other people's children to get ill.

Have you got any friends you could call a favour from if he's on the mend? Depending on what makes the day important is there any flexibility in the time at university (eg moving a tutorial or swapping a slot with someone for supervision) or could you access material another way?

Please keep him off. That’s a significant temperature. And there’s a risk to other kids.
It’s really tough though. Is there anything at uni you could do via Skype?
