Baby eczema

My babe is only 4 weeks old soon to be 5 weeks old and she has really bad baby eczema. I've taken her to the GP and they have prescribed her some steroid creams for her face and neck.
It looks so sore and aggravated although I though I don't feel like it's bothering her all that much as she is just a groggy.

Just wondering if anyone else is going through as I feel completely helpless that I can't take it away from her. It looks terrible on her little face.

Has anyone else got experience with thins sort of this?

We were prescribed steroid cream and it didn't work but Epaderm from superdrug did. However, that's not to say that you shouldn't follow the doctor's advice (obviously!) but if all else fails I'd give that a bash as we tried everything and it was a miracle!

I've been told Child's Farm works wonders in between the Steroid cream but I've been using sudocrem until I can get to the shops.

How long does the eczema generally last for once you know how to treat it?

My baby daughter had patches of eczema and I've found that using 'Oilatum' bath formula followed by La Roche-Posay Baby Lipikar Balm has been amazing for keeping her skin hydrated and clear -
(You can get both at Boots)

Anything else off the shelf, even the "sensitive" stuff, just caused dryness and irritation.

Might be worth a try?

How bad is the eczema? Sudocream is horrible stuff so I'd stop using that.

Is she well otherwise? Gaining weight and feeding ok? Is her poo yellow or green?

Get referred to a dermatologist. Best thing we ever did. Was prescribed clobetasone which clears it up in a flash when DS gets bad flare ups. He was 3 months old when he first got it really badly all over his face.

We keep it under control with oilatum and diprobase but the stronger stuff is great when he has a bad flare up when the weather changes.

We are going through this with my little one who is nearly 15 weeks. We are just getting to the point where his skin is almost looking and feeling normal for the 1st time. We use an emollient cream the doctor prescribed 4/5 times a day all over his skin plus we have had steroid cream to use. The 1st one they gave was a hydrocortisone and although it helped it wasn't doing enough so we were given a stronger which weve used twice a day for the last week which has been amazing.
On top of this I have been using Aveeno products on him which are designed for eczema prone skin. I use their wipes and their emollient body wash in his baths. I have made sure all his clothes are 100% cotton. Everything is washed after each wear (mainly because of all the creams) and I use fairy tablets with no fabric softener. I have also kept his baths to 2/3 a week

@beentotheotherside.... why is sudocrem "horrible stuff?"

EssentialHummus · 02/02/2020 08:37

Sympathies, DD was the same. You’ll need to try different things to see what works for her. For us it was Childs Farm moisturiser and lots of time in the sun (for short periods, of course).
