My child had it due to enlarged tonsils and adenoids. They were taken out after a sleep study and she has been so well ever since. No more sleep issues. It is very scary at first but push for sleep study to find out more or film any incidents at home so you can show doctors.

What symptoms did they have? Was it really obvious? I'm not convinced mine does

She was ill on and off for most of her first year with respiratory issues. She struggled to put any weight on and looked pale/ill. Very obvious mouth breather also. One day while napping on me she stopped breathing for a long pause then gasped for breath. She did it another few times while sleeping on me during that nap. We took her to A&E and she appeared fine there. We went home and then observed her sleep at night and during naps. We videoed her and got loads of evidence of her stopping breathing throughout sleep and then gasping for breath. We felt so guilty we didn't pick it up earlier but we had put her in her own room at 6 weeks. We got fast tracked to ENT and the consultant looked at the videos and looked at her tonsils and then said they need to come out. He only requested a sleep study as she was so young and under the recommended 15kg weight for the operation. He wanted to see how severe it was. Sleep study gave him more information and showed her oxygen levels dropped when she slept. Operation booked in the following week. Immediate improvement. Put on weight, grew a lot taller and practically no respiratory problems since.

What makes you think your son might have it? I did loads of research online as thought it was only older people who suffered and found it's really common in childhood.
