Advice to help 6mo post bug

DD 6mo got a sickness and diarrhoea bug a couple of weekends ago. The diarrhoea persisted and she had a few very bad days, including some traces of blood in her nappy. Drs not worried and said it's just a virus. She's BF with a little formula at bed time. We began weaning at Christmas but not much going in. Feeding well, wet nappies, active and happy.
Unfortunately she's still suffering with the nasty nappies, although the number has reduced, and I'm wondering if there are any ways to help her, any words of advice to help her gut recover?

Breastmilk is the absolute best thing -- and it sounds as though you're already doing this. Could you drop the formula feed for a week or two to get an extra breastfeed in? The formula is probably dairy based (?) and maybe harder to digest.
As she is only little and barely starting solids, I would only give them if she seems to really want them. If she does seem to want food, banana, cooked apple, rice/rice cakes, toast, scrambled egg, etc. are easy to digest and can help get things a bit more solid again. Avoiding dairy in food might help, although it's really just a matter of time.
Remember that if she's mainly having breastmilk and very little food, her nappies are likely to be runnier and more newborn-like anyway.
Hope she's all better soon!

@BlackInk thanks so much. Following your advice, and she's definitely getting there. Bizarrely my pharmacist told me to stop bf completely and give only dioralyte (sp)? Anyway I didn't do that. I'm basically feeding her breast milk and bananas right now, and she's doing so much better.
