How bad is a bottle past one year old?

My child is 16 months old and he still has a bottle for his Goats milk only. He can do other vessels when having water but I always find his milk goes down better in the bottle. One of those tomme tippie closer to nature bottles is the bottle he has. It does act as a comforter for him I think. The Nhs website says this..."Once your baby is 1 year old, feeding from a bottle should be discouraged." On it's page about drinks and cups. Should I make him go cold turkey? No more bottle? Or maybe I get a better bottle? Something approved by dentists? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated Smile

My LO is 2.5 and still have her milk in a bottle twice a day - sometimes once a day. Not ideal and I’m going to cut it off soon. 1 yr old is fine.

One bottle a day and if last thing at night make sure teeth are cleaned?

I really wouldn't give it a second thought. I'm not going to tell you how long my ds had a bottle with story time but looking back I'm quite shocked at my self. Wink

He's a big grown up man now and has done him no harm whatsover.

** whatsoever

It’s easier to get rid of bottles at 1 than it is at 2 or 3. Also it’s better for their teeth to drink from a cup.

Thanks guys this all very helpful info and also thank you for not judging me! Just seen this bottle on the net called a pura toddler bottle. The end looks slightly nipple ish but not. Could be a good transition maybe?

Absolutely fine OP

Totally fine! I believe my ds had a bed time bottle of milk til he was 2 & 1/2, it's comforting especially if they're under the weather etc.

It's not all bad. The problem comes if they are walking around with a bottle, especially if it has juice in, but milk is also a problem (not as bad) or if they are going to bed with a bottle and keep it with them. Both of these cause the teeth to be frequently and long lastingly coated in sugars which is onviously not good. Ideally give the last bottle before tooth brushing, but I know that's tricky if they feed to sleep.

The one you've seen sounds a bit gimmicky to me. I am not sure your toddler will mind what type they change to.
