Never ending cold

My 4 mo has had a cough and major congestion on and off for about a month now.. she is happy and eating well, and has normal diaper output, but at night her coughing gets so bad she keeps herself up! She starts having coughing fits, and it sounds like she's choking and ultimately she'll start crying because it hurts her.. our pediatrician said there is nothing we can do other than wait it out, but it's been soooo long and I feel so helpless! Does anyone have any home remedies that worked and helped soothe the discomfort? We tried essential oils, hot water & camomile steam to breathe in, and saline drops for her nose.

That doesn't sound like a cold. Has she had the whooping cough vaccine?

Does anyone smoke? In or out of the house? Visitors?
Any pets?
My son had rsv bronchiolitis at 4 months and was admitted to hospital. He was wheezy for 15 years afterwards, but was also found to be allergic to tree pollen. We couldn't open any windows in his room due to neighbour's trees. Couldn't dry washing outside.

She's had the whooping cough vaccine, so its not that.. my husband does smoke, but never in the house or around her and he always washes his hands before touching her...
we have 2 dogs but pediatrician said its not allergy related...

Time for a second opinion.

Remember that smoke will be in your husband's clothes, hair too. What allergy testing has your paediatricin done?

Jeleste · 23/01/2020 05:55

A cough can linger for quite a long time unfortunately and at that age theres not much you can do about it apart from what you have tried.
I would suggest a second opinion to ease your mind, maybe the doctor missed something.

Is your husband changing his clothes?
