Second front tooth behind others

Hi, are there any dentists around? Or maybe someone has experience of this. My DS (10) has his top front second tooth coming in, but it's about 4/5 mm behind the rest. We were at the dentist and I'm not sure if I took in what he said properly. But I think he said they would eventually (in a couple of years) just take the tooth out and close the gap, or the gap would close itself.

So essentially he would be missing a tooth, he seemed to think that it's too far back to pull forward with a brace.

Any words of wisdom?

I very much doubt they would extract a front adult tooth. It may move as other teeth come through and he may qualify for orthodontic treatment or if not, there are private options. Does he have many adult teeth?

This happened to my son when he was in Y3. The adult tooth came in behind the baby tooth. The baby tooth didn't become wobbly. He was referred to an orthodontist, the baby tooth was removed and he was fitted with a removable brace that pushed the tooth forwards (we had to adjust the spring on the plate regularly). His teeth are beautiful now. The treatment took less than a year. This was all through the NHS. Ask for an orthodontist referral.

Too far back to fix with braces? I find that hard to believe. My front teeth were a jumble thanks to a baby tooth refusing to fall out and displacing several adult teeth. I had years of orthodontic work to fix it. First, a bigger gap was created between my front tooth and my canine, and then the out of place tooth was pulled forward into the gap.

This was in the 90s.

I called the dentist back as he sounded so sure it would need to come out, spoke to some one else who read his note where he mentioned a referral once all baby teeth had fallen out. He never mentioned that when we were there. The woman I spoke to was very helpful and explained his notes to me, then said she would put the referral through for me there and then. So I have to call the Ortho on fri. She also mentioned the brace with the spring as pp mentioned but also that if it couldn't be fixed they would remove and put in an implant.

Thanks for the replies
