Recurring ankle

DD hurt her ankle when she was 10. Took her to the doctor who thought it was a sprain and recommended RICE. It got better though did take a few weeks.

Since then, every so often, normally following a time when she is more active or on her feet more than normal she seems to get recurring ankle pain. cutting back activity and resting normally "fixes" it fairly quickly.

However in the last few months (DD is now nearly 14), the problems have got worse. It's been very painful more frequently and DD says that even between times there's sort of a dull ache. I'm planning to go back to the doctor but don't want to be fobbed off with "rest it" - DD is starting to get frustrated that she has to constantly cut back on things she wants to do. She describes this as a pain around her ankle and the back of her heel which hurts more when she stretches her foot out parallel to her leg, but sort of feels better as it's like it's pulled into place.

Any thoughts what it might be or ideas to force the doctor to be a bit more pro-active?

This is what frustrates me about injuries being put down to "sprains" and being given the general RICE advice.

Both myself and OH have had on going ankle issues due to injuries being left too long before further investigation and treatment.

If it's still causing pain 4 yrs later push for further investigation and not in the form of a physio assessment, it needs scanning ideally.

Ligament or tendon injuries can often take longer than fractures to heal, especially if not picked up early enough.

I'd see the GP and ask for a referral. It could be all sorts of things.
DS2 had a very sore ankle over a number of weeks - turned out he had a bone infection and needed IV antibiotics and an operation.
