Glue ear advice and questions

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to see anyone has had a similar experience or has any wise words for me.
My 3 yr son currently has no language, and recently found out he has double glue ear. (He has us all fooled as he responds, and will do simple tasks when gestures are involved)
We are fortunate to get help to go private for a set of grommets, because unfortunately the nhs wait time is so long, and with starting to look at school soon, it's just all so scary.
He has an assessment in a few weeks, but apart from the speech delay, it was so hard filling out all the forms. His nursery are not concerned about him socially and emotionally. And we arent either. when i was informed about glue ear, it is him! Hit the nail on the head!
But the idea of grommets is scary, but exciting. But I'm worried I may be putting all my eggs in one basket. So many questions, will the grommets work?
Will he always be behind?
How long until he will talk? Will he ever talk? (He makes so much noise, just no words)
Does anyone have experience of this?
I feel so lost, and like I'm in a different place to all my mum friends.
Thankyou

My youngest had recurring ear infections and ruptured ear drums (like every other week during 8 months of the year over the winter)from 5 months old until he had grommets when he was 3. Since then he’s had maybe a handful of infections (he’s 9 now)
So grommets seemed to resolve the glue ear/infections side of things. How ever and this was due to the constant rupturing when his grommets fell out his left ear drum flapped over and wouldn’t reveal itself so he’s likely to need an operation when he’s 12 to repair it. He also has some hearing loss in that ear.

He had plenty of language but needed lots of speech therapy for probounciation etc

My eldest son had no language until he was 2.5 and then just started talking one day so it’s possible

That sounds really tough! Sounds like you have a tough cookie!
We haven't had any ear infections, which is another reason the glue ear was a bit of a shock!

My DS has double glue ear at around 2.5. I had been concerned as he was only using single words. He didn't need grommets, just antibiotics- a week of those & he was putting words together. I had one grommet as a kid, but don't remember that. I had another one about 6 yrs ago & it helped hugely with recurrent infections, but I still have chronic issues.
