Pre School Booster reaction - normal?

Hi, my little boy had his pre school boosters on Friday afternoon. One arm has swollen up and the redness has spread up to his shoulder and down to about 10cm from his elbow. It’s hot to touch but he’s not complaining of it being sore. Has anyone else’s child had a similar reaction, or should I be contacting 111?

Not sure how to post a picture?!

Have you taken his temperature, OP?
This CAN be a normal reaction, though a strong one. Still, I'd contact 111. Take his temperature as well.

His temperature is 37.2 so normal, he did have a high temperature yesterday but nothing today.
111 have the message on to say they have high call volumes and only want urgent issues so feel bad to take time up if it is a normal reaction!

Swelling around the injection site is normal but the whole arm swelling up sounds extreme.

Could you take him to a pharmacist for advice maybe?

Ring 111 for peace of mind

Hi there My son has had exactly the same reaction. How is your son now, what was the course of action? Thanks so much! I'm a little worried.

Davies1982 · 26/02/2020 12:36

Hi, I wrote this on the Sunday night (he had the jabs Friday) and was going to make a GP Appointment Monday morning - when he woke on Monday the reaction had massively reduced (so day 4) and by day 6 completely gone. Hopefully it will be the same for your LB

Thanks so so much. I hope so! It is horrible isnt it makes me think he has allergies lurking. Nasty jabs :-(

My ds had this!!!

We rang 111 and had a doctor call back and was told to medicate with paracetamol and ibuprofen. If anything got worse, such as very high temperature, vomiting etc, then go to A&E but otherwise let it go it’s course.

The redness went down in about 5 days
