Migraine?

DS, 7, has been getting headaches more frequently. He came back from his dad's yesterday because he was also vomiting. We thought it was a bug but when he got home he was saying it was his head.

He was right as rain this morning, but the headache started again this afternoon.

Over the last 2/3 months he's started complaining once or twice a week of having a headache and feeling dizzy. Sometimes with vomiting.

I was going to take him to see the GP this afternoon but he said he felt ok and just wanted a rest. But now I'm beginning to feel like I should have done.

I'm probably going to take him to see the GP on Monday.
I guess my question is could it be migraines?

Does he need/wear glasses? I always suffered with headaches as a child and I now suffer with migraine as an adult.
Maybe if one arises today take him to go on call xx

My 7 yo has similar, not always with a headache though. We only twigged that they were migraines when he started complaining about the flashy lights in his eyes. Took him to the doctors and lo and behold he's suffering from full and abdominal migraines.

Thanks for replies

Yeh he does wear glasses, his last check up was about 6 months ago.

He seems more like his usual self this morning. Says he feels a bit dizzy, but no headache. If it crops up again this weekend I'll call out of hours, but definitely take him GP on Monday.

Hi, I don't want to scare you but my daughter presented like this at a similar age and she had a brain tumour. It was not picked up by the GP and was only discovered by a chance trip to the opticians by which time she was really quite ill without us knowing it.

We estimate she probably had it at least six months before she was diagnosed with very mild symptons of occasional vomiting and dizziness and fine in between.

GP though it might be stomach migraines and referred to paeds at hospital, we got the appointment through 100 days later. By which time she had had two brain surgeries and was starting radiation.

GPs are not well trained in spotting brain tumours in children - there are so many other childhood illnesses it could be. Fingers crossed it isn't xx

My DS seems fine most of the time, then it's just bouts of nausea/vomiting, headaches and feeling dizzy.

He's booked to see a nurse practitioner today, as I couldn't get a GP. So will see how that goes Smile

Hope everything is okay OP

I have to agree with Substandard here. These were my son's symptoms and he had a brain tumour. He was 8. If you didn't get any sensible answers from the nurse practitioner and he is still suffering please, please push for a referral to your local hospital asap.

Please check out this Link

Of course, these symptoms can be due to many other causes but the really serious stuff has to be ruled out first.

And DS is 32 and fine now. He's healthy, happy and well. He had surgery and radiotherapy. It was a long haul back in 1995/6 but the treatments are light years away from what they were back then.

I truly hope you don't need this information and I hope your DS is better.

I hope you got some answers today.

My DS developed migraines just over 12 months ago - all the typical symptoms, headache, vomiting, sleeping for a couple of hours then being right as rain. First one really scared us so we took him to A&E who immediately did an MRI and CT which showed nothing untoward. Sadly he's now developed epilepsy and the specialist thinks the migraines were a precursor to it. I hope your DS is a little more fortunate.
