Pock marks 5 years on

Hi ladies. A minor issue I know but... my daughter had severe chicken pox aged
2 which left her with at least 15 deep pock marks on her face. The ones between her eyes and lower forehead are still deep 5 years later, aged 7.

She’s very pale with thin skin and when she’s tired and under harsh light, they are really noticeable still.
Does anyone know if, as a child grows in to an adult, childhood pock marks ever improve?

Generally no. The skin of that area does thicken a little as you reach maturity, but if they are still deep they are unlikely to fade completely. I'm not sure what medical interventions are available, but is it something that bothers her? I've always been a bit unphased by scars (I've got a few awesome ones from accidents), but some people do find them damaging to their confidence.

DS is the same. He is 5 now and had chickenpox about 3 years ago. I read somewhere that if thry dont fade within 2 years they probably won't.

No, she is stuck with them, just like the mark slap bang in the middle of the tip of my nose which is 40 years old Angry

They'll fade and get/look smaller as she gets older and her head gets bigger!

My DD sounds like yours, in the light you can still see them.
She had severe CP at 6 and is now 11.They were horrific and seem a little better each year.

If it doesn't bother here, it shouldn't bother you! But I believe they will fade more and more with time. I had some noticeable ones when I got CP at 16. They have completely disappeared now.

CP can be far nastier then people realise.

Is it worth me getting my dd vaccinated? Reading more horror stories about this. Sad

Hope they fade for her op x

BillieEilish · 03/01/2020 17:24

Yes.

I live in Spain and it is par for the course here. You pay 60 euros or something. 'Oh no', said me and DH, 'We all had CP, no problems' It is natural.

Stupid bloody mistake. Get the vaccination.

Ok thanks all. It still upsets me to see her with scars as they are in the center of her face and therefore v noticeable. She has had a few questions from friends and just says matter of fact they are because she had very bad chicken pox.

OP DD has one large scar between her eyes/eyebrows, a large ring.

She says quite nonchalantly 'I love my circle'

So sweet, lets hope she feels like that as a teen, but, I really think they look better as they get older, honestly. Also, nobody is completely protected by the vaccine, by acne, by a bad fall (DD), by a cricket ball or tennis ball breaking their nose, teeth etc, just remember that Flowers it'll be fine!

Thanks billieEilish you’re so right. I’m fine about it most of the time but now and again, i seem to focus on it again and wish I’d done more to stop it from scarring her like it has. Beating my lself up as is mums do!! I did do as much as I could, poxclin etc but the pox attacked her skin very deeply so no amount of ointments, creams or oils could have improve the outcome x
