Molloscum - 4 months in

My dd has molloscum behind her knee and under her arm but its spreading and she has roughly 30 of them. We are just trying molludab but I wondered if anyone else had managed to clear it this early in? I often wonder if those who find a treatment has worked when they are over 12 months in are just coincidence and it would have gone on it's own anyway, so I just want to hear about cmanyone who cleared it in under 12 months.

There is a group on facebook called Molluscum Kids Support Group, a lot of people post there about diffrent treatments if you want to read. I haven't tried any treatments on my baby yet.

My daughter is 12 and has just come out of a 2 year stint of molloscum. We tried Molludab, tea tree oil, aspirin cream, antibacterial shower gel and aloe vera gel. Nothing made the slightest bit of difference I'm afraid. Her immune system just had to get itself in gear and recognise it as the enemy. You have my sympathies though - it was awful - DD had them on her legs, torso, arms and eventually on her face Sad

My DS is 8 and had Molloscum last year on his chest and arms. It was confirmed by GP, who said it could take several months to a year to clear. I was devastated!

I started googling and read about a great "cure" online which I thought was worth trying, and it worked like an absolute beauty. We bathed him every day before bed as normal? and them covered all affected areas in Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. We literally slathed it on. I think we used Sudocream too. It was incredible - within about 2 weeks from starting with the 8 hour cream his skin was completely clear! His pyjama top got a bit greasy, and we changed/washed tops every day, but it was a small price to pay. It's also important to squeeze the centre out of any spots (a bit grim), wash hands religiously after any contact with the molloscum and to stop the child scratching. Good luck! I can't recommend the 8 hour cream enough (I also use it myself!).

@AliTheMinx thanks for this, how long had he had them when you tried this? I will try it! Did they just disappear or did they go red and scab etc?

DD1s went after a couple of months... She fell over and ripped one off (massive graze, so it was all gone) The others went over the next couple of days.

@Happymumma29 He had had it for a few weeks before we took him to the GP. We didn't really know what it was and were hoping it would clear up on its own, but once it was clearly spreading we wanted to get it checked.

The spots, if I remember, just scabbed over and went away with no scarring pretty quickly. Obviously we impressed on our son the importance of not scratching, which helped. We just kept the spots covered with 8 hour cream. I couldn't believe how effective it was. Really hope you have the same luck x

I just read the previous post and this was also something we tried - getting rid of one big spot (by squeezing). I'd heard that once your body realises the spots are things it needs to fight, it kickstarts the defence into action.

Suzie81 · 01/01/2020 07:53

I've heard a lot about the popping theory too. Not sure if it's backed by evidence, but lots of people seem to have similar experiences.

MotheringShites · 01/01/2020 07:56

My DS had molluscum for about a year. It cleared up completely after he caught a cold.

CherryMaple · 01/01/2020 08:07

My DD had molluscum for well over a year, and it showed no sign of clearing. None of the spots had ever gone away of their own accord. I then started emptying them, and that got rid of it. The lumps inside can be big, and your child needs to be quite brave while you do it. My DD could only cope with one per night. But it’s worth it to get rid...

Notthisnotthat · 01/01/2020 08:14

My daughter had them for about 6 months and we tried a lot of different things, Scratchy Balm by LJ Naturals really took the redness out of the inflamed ones. They disappeared after we went on holiday and she spent a lot of time in a salt water swimming pool and the sea.

Growingboys · 01/01/2020 08:17

I eventually took my son to a private dermatologist who froze them off in two seconds.

Wish I'd done it sooner. It barely hurt and then they were gone, after YEARS of trying everything.

If you can afford a private dermatologist appointment do it. I was robbed off by my doctor for years who told me how painful it would be to freeze them etc. Nonsense.

Molludab didn't work for us, nor did any of the million other things I read about on here.

What a waste of time that was.

HelloGabriel · 01/01/2020 08:33

As above, DD's cleared up after holiday so I'm not sure if it was the sea (one visit) or the swimming pool (hours every day).

Salt vs chlorine?

Anyway, we've been back 4 months now and a couple of new ones are sprouting on her armpit ffs Confused

My child’s molluscum at age 8/9 lasted about a year on backs of legs, between thighs and a few on face. We tried various treatments and nothing seemed to help. There are now just a few tiny scars. It is a pain and keeping skin constantly covered at school and in pools was hard.

LadyGAgain · 04/01/2020 23:55

I know of someone who threw away her 20 year best friendship over MC.
She had her friend to stay and little one had MC. The mother of the MC child said she wouldn't allow the same age toddler of best friend to bath due to MC. Hosting parents threw out the toddler and her mum the following morning without breakfast or shower time in case their DC caught it. What horrid people they are.

TiffanyTrot · 05/01/2020 00:18

When my son had a few a few years back, I picked them so they bled. It sort of 'disrupts' then and they scan over and that's that. Worked for us anyway
