Mark on skin growing

Noticed this mark about four weeks ago. I thought it was a scab from some sort of bump. It's actually doubled in size in the last month. It can wait until we get to the gp, right?

Long long history of unidentified health issues with this kid. He's just about to turn three

As someone else said, moles can look really dodgy and still be perfectly fine. Atypical moles they are known as. However, on a child and given the growth you have described, I would want a second opinion before I adopted a "wait and see" strategy.

Hi Bitofnamechanging sorry for taking you off on a tangent. One of my dc had similar symptoms you described in one of your earlier posts but not the same as your subsequent post.

They are probably not that bothered are they by weight and height on 25th as this is well within normal range but if his growth continues to falter, I would ask for a referral to a paediatric endocrinologist. The head of the Child Growth Foundation believes that it's just as important to investigate a child whose growth drops through centile lines as one who has always been small.

I hope very much the mole is ok. I wouldn't hesitate to ask for a second opinion if worried.

@LatinforTelly I appreciate it. The paediatrician isn't particularly happy with his growth as he feels it is tailing off but is going for a strategy of wait and see.

I'll follow up on the skin mark. Thank you. I haven't looked at in a few days so will check it when he gets home to see what it's doing

How's your DS doing OP? Has the 'freckle' continued growing?

Bitofnamechanging · 09/01/2020 10:34

@VforVienetta thanks for asking. It doesn't appear to have grown. He's been really tired and grumpy lately though so I haven't been able to take another picture

I'm struggling to judge if it's changed

I have a few marks like that which appeared in the first year of life. I’ve been told to get them checked regularly as they might be precancerous but never had an issue. I had one dermatologist offer to remove them but then I switched to another who said it was fine. They’ve actually shrunk in recent years. The key with marks is monitoring them. Try not to worry Flowers

Hi, my son has a raised pinkish mole/lump on his head, I noticed it before when he’s had his haircut but more so this week, it has a black mark inside of it which looks like a black head but I’m not sure if that’s even possible to have a blackhead in a mole?

How is your DS now @Bitofnamechanging ?
