My 2yo has always had eczema but the last few months it's turned from mild (red and sore in knee/ elbow creases and random dry patches) to what look like awful burns and pimples on back, arms, legs. They bleed, form scabs and it can be a long itchy uncomfortable cycle before they semi heal. They've not healed yet.

Have been back to the GP every 2-3 weeks as what they prescribe doesn't make a difference unless it's hydrocortisone. They have now referred us to a specialist.

In the meantime if anyone has any input I'd appreciate it.

I apply cream every couple of hours through the day and I find a cream seems to help one day and not the next?!
Bath is only twice a week with just water as a flare up came after a bath with Oilatum in now I'm worried that will hurt her skin although it could have been coincidence.

I'm now trying diet and reducing dairy although no food has changed which could have triggered this sudden change.
No changes in washing powder (used non bio since birth).

Read a post in the search element on here where someone recommended H&B balmonds, thank you.

My son is 8 months and gets terrible eczema too. Only thing that seems to help is: www.amazon.co.uk/Vaseline-Intensive-Care-Soothe-Lotion/dp/B003WUVJ1E?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

And I mix it with regular vaseline before application. But it only keeps it at bay for a while, so once a week we have to apply steroid cream (emuvate?) which is moderately potent.

We have a specialist appointment in April, but I fear they'll just say carry on doing whatever works.

He gets it very generally all over torso, although in recent weeks his back seems to have cleared up and we don't have to use steroids on it anymore. But still gets in tummy and terribly on cheeks unless we keep on top of it.

At night I put scratch sleeves on him www.scratchsleeves.co.uk, as otherwise he can tear his skin gu shreds with his nails.

My daughter had nothing like this, so it's still all very new to me.

I've done all the diet stuff, plus washing powders etc. Nothing made a blind bit of difference. Am currently experimenting with bath routines - only do 2 baths a week, and trying a range of additions to the water. But when they're older 2 baths a week could get tricky and a little smelly!

Just wanted you to know you're not alone.

Hi, my dd was referred to GOSH for awful eczema at 2yrs old. Previous doctors had explored allergies etc as nothing was touching it. They wanted to do a biopsy and I refused and wanted a second opinion hence the referral. GOSH explained it was simply eczema and prescribed Mometazone cream which was the ONLY cream that ever worked and her skin has been clear ever since. As soon as it starts to flare up we use the cream and it never turns into a dull scab. Wish we had if sooner as she has been left with scars.
