5year old complaining of leg pain

Hi, my DD sometimes complains of leg pain which we put down to growing pain but she complains the pain is only on one leg, of course when we go to google, all sorts of results come through.
Now, because my anxiety is so bad, this is making me stop eating and can't sleep.
She seems well overall but waking up because of leg pain never happened before.
Has anyone experienced this and what did you do?

Thank you so much. Smile

Where is the leg pain? What makes it worse or better

Have you seen the gp?

Ask for some blood tests, dont let them fob you off with "growing pains"

Although, if she is well, not tired or pale, no other symptoms, they are all good things

Thank you for your replies. She is well, loves her food, plays a lot, it's mainly night time she complains and it's not all the time. But she woke up last night in pain and I'm going to the gp now. Will let you know how it goes. Xx

So according to the doctor everything is fine, told me to give her Ibuprofen in case it happens again. I don't know if I'm suppose to worry or not. 😕

I agree with PP, get some blood tests.

This happened to my ds around the same age. I put it down to growing pains, but was eventually referred to the paediatrician and it turned out he was severely vitamin d deficient. It really surprised me as he was outside a lot, apparently it's very common. His friend at school had leg pain too, I prompted his mum to ask for a vit d blood test and turned out he was deficient too.

Anyway it might not be but good to rule it out.

DD had pain mainly in one leg, in the groin and knee.
She was low on vit d and we started off the shelf boots own multi vit (not all multi or vit d chewys have the recommended level) and after a month or so she stopped mentioning it.
Would be worth trying a multi vit or specific vit d and see if things improve before pushing for bloods, it's not the nicest of things for kids to go through and there's negligible risk in using a general vitamin.

My son has just been diagnosed with Hypermobility and he runs about crazy during the day happy as anything then at night complains he’s sore mostly in legs, turns out Hypermobility has been causing the muscle/joint pain, I would recommend referral to paediatrician for blood tests etc and don’t get fobbed off with Growing pains you know your own child, I knew my son had an issue

I was coming on to say about hypermobility - pp beat me to it.

DS is 7 and we were fobbed off with being told it was an injury (night time pain - started in one leg then after some weeks in the other, then became more specific to knees and ankles). Our GP was worse than useless. 5 visits and we got nowhere. Eventually I paid for a private consultation and then some private physio - he was diagnosed with hyper mobility (Ehlers danlos syndrome, something we specifically asked the GP about as there is a family connection) and also Osgood Schlatters in his knees and Severs in his ankles. We were told by the GP he is too young for any of this, but the hypermobility is exacerbating it hence the young age.

The good news is that with stretches and exercises he is pretty good now - the pain is 5% of what it was.

It’s worth asking about these things but I hope your GP is more open minded than ours.
