Chronic loose stools for DD (9)

Haven't been to GP yet but just gearing up to go. My DD who is 9 has been complaining of loose/runny poohs for ages. Very occasionally accompanied by tummy pain although I don't think this is ever very severe. I have been hoping it would clear or she would grow out of it as it doesn't affect her as such, otherwise she is super duper healthy and a good eater. I was thinking of starting to cut out food groups to see if it helps but have no idea where to start! Has anybody experienced similar?

You say loose is it just watery or pebble like.

Which on this scale would she be and does it ever change

While you wait to see the gp it would be worth keeping a stool chart. Google Bristol stool chart and get her to write down what type it is when she goes and keep a note of how often she is going. Does she ever have any normal poos inbetween?

If she is other wise well it might be worth considering constipation. It sounds counter intuitive, but constipation can cause loose stools as poo escapes round the hard lump. If you look in the ERIC website they have good info on it.

I would keep a stool chart and if you can a food chart without making any changes first. Then if the gp suggests it, you have a baseline to compare it to to see if, for example, cutting out dairy makes any improvement.
