Baby's rash?? (Been to the doctors twice)

JingleJingleHoHoHo · 18/12/2019 19:03

Baby came out in this rash earlier this week. Been to the doctors twice.

I thought hand, food and mouth. But since then it's spread to baby's legs and bottom.

The doctor's just said it's a virus.

Baby also has very green poop.

It's not that I don't trust the doctor. Baby is PFB and it makes me really sad to see their poor body covered like this. Anyways. Anyone have any thoughts?

Can you download a pic or describe the rash? Any other symptoms over the last week - cold, raised temp, cough etc? Is the ratch itchy? Did it come on after the green poop (or any other symptoms) started. Are they eating/sleeping as per usual ?

Bjorksswandress · 18/12/2019 19:09

Ah just seen pic. Is it itchy do you think.

TheClausSeason · 18/12/2019 19:11

That looks quite dramatic so I get why you're concerned but I think, based on what the doctor said, it's probably a viral rash unless baby also has other symptoms?

justtheonethen · 18/12/2019 19:11

Looks exactly like my daughters HFM and that was on bum and legs too.

Bjorksswandress · 18/12/2019 19:15

Where did the spots start? Has she any in/round her mouth or on her throat ? The rash does look like HFM.

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 18/12/2019 19:15

Is it hives? My daughter has hives pretty regularly and they seem to be part of the way her immune system fights everything off. The first time she had them they stayed for about 5 weeks and both the paediatric doctor and baby dermatologist said it was a response to a virus. It's been a couple of months now and they just seem to flare up
and go down quickly but still more often than we'd like! It looks distressing when she has them but they don't seem to bother her. My husband keeps trying to find a food allergy but there really doesn't seem to be one a d we've just got used to giving her fenistil drops (an anti-histamine) when they appear.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 18/12/2019 19:15

Could it be an allergic reaction? The last one looks like a water blister which is what makes me wonder.

I get water blisters on my knuckles like that when I'm too exposed to the sun/heat. It gets really itchy and also appears on my knees and elbows.

Have you tried hydrochortisone cream (are we allowed to use that on children)?

Littlefrog99 · 18/12/2019 19:17

My DS often gets rashes when he has a virus (pretty much constantly from Oct to Mar) and its looks the same. It's not itchy and bothers me to look at it more than it bothers him.

Green poops started first. Maybe a week ago? Had green poops before after jabs. Wasn't overly worried.

Then Sunday baby was upset, not napping like normal. Then had a temperature in the afternoon.
Sunday night = horrible. Lots of crying. Not much sleep.
Monday had temperature, very unhappy still.
Monday night = worse than Sunday night.
Tuesday baby was a lot better I themself. Only slight temperature in the morning, only had calpol once (Sunday, Monday maxed out calpol and ibuprofen keeping temp down).
Tuesday afternoon rash appeared. And it's got worse today.
No temperature today. Baby's not 100% but maybe due to the lack of sleep over the last few days. Definitely happier today. Just more rashy.

Saw doctor Monday and Tuesday.

We started weaning about 4 weeks ago. Had several weeks of normal nappy's and no rash. Only had veg -
Carrot
Sweed
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Sweet potato

Didn't seem to relate to eating something new. Stopped all food. Went back to just breast milk. Nappies still green.
Rash appeared after we'd stopped all the food.

It does sound viral and seems to sound most likely HFM. Saying that I’m not a medic though. It’s good that there’s no temp now and Baby is more settled. I’d say if you are worried at any point to contact the doctor again but hopefully this is the worst of it.

MissOrganisedMe · 18/12/2019 22:09

My wee one gets a rash like that after or during a viral infection. The rash doesn't bother her. I'd agree with the other posters that it could possibly be HFM. Have you checked for any other blistery spots?

dementedpixie · 18/12/2019 22:11

Hand foot and mouth can affect nappy area and legs so it probably is that

LondonUnited · 18/12/2019 22:11

This looks like Hand Foot and Mouth to me and the course you describe is exactly how it went with my now 3 year old (classic HFM is raised temperature for 48 hours then appearance of rash). One of the viruses which causes HFM is an enterovirus which can explain gastrointestinal symptoms. If she is ok in herself I would ride it out for now, obviously if she stops eating or seems lethargic or otherwise unwell then go back to GP.

peachgreen · 18/12/2019 22:16

Exactly how my DD's HFM was only her hands weren't as bad. She had it all over her bum and legs too. First doctor we saw also said it was viral, then nursery made us go back as they were worried it was chicken pox and second doctor confirmed HFM. There's no treatment though beyond Calpol for the temperature.

SillyBub · 18/12/2019 22:21

When both mine had HFM we called it Hand, Foot, Legs and Bum sung to the tune of head, shoulders, knees and toes They had no spots in or around their mouths, but I caught it off them and had it more traditionally!

Looks very much like HF&M to me from your pics.

managedmis · 19/12/2019 02:02

Have you been rough too, op? Any mouth ulcers?

SofiaAmes · 19/12/2019 02:22

I had the same as SillyBub....ds had spots everywhere, but nothing in his mouth. Then I got it and had sores throughout my mouth, but no spots. Lots of ibuprofen helps.

JingleJingleHoHoHo · 19/12/2019 07:58

So hard getting pics of this wiggling child. There are 2 on the hand look a little like blisters. The legs don't look like that.

Moonshine160 · 19/12/2019 11:35

This is exactly what my DS looked like when he had hand foot and mouth. The spots started around his mouth and hands but then a rash spread all over his body. We ended up at the hospital with him because the spots in his mouth prevented him from drinking and he ended up dehydrated. The consultant said that the rash all over his body was just a viral rash in response to the HFM.

Celebelly · 19/12/2019 11:49

Looks like HFM to me too. DD has this at the moment. She has blisters on hands and knees weirdly but just a more normal rash on her legs and bottom and arms. I know it's HFM because of the blisters and also because two of her pals just had it so I was waiting for us to be struck with it too! It looks really unpleasant but DD isn't that bothered. They can get sores inside their mouth which can be painful.

Celebelly · 19/12/2019 11:52

This is my DD's hand this morning. She has spots like your DD has over her arms and legs too.
