Secondary lactose intolerance. Help!

I have twin girls who are 7 months old, after having really loose yellowy coloured poops for 2 days I took them to the doctor who said she suspects they have secondary lactose intolerance, she advised not to do anything unless it gets worse, then we may need to try lactose free milk for 4 week.
They don’t seem to be in any pain (apart from really sore bums) but I’m confused how it will fix itself if they’re still having lactose in their milk?
Has anyone else experienced this? Should I just put them on lactose free milk or should I take them back to the doctor and ask for something to be prescribed?
Has anyone just left it to sort itself?
TIA.

The body will start producing more lactase again (the enzyme that digests lactose) so it should improve over time. You could try colief in their milk as that breaks down lactose
