Mucusy cough - 9 month old

DS has just turned 9 months and he has the most awful mucusy chesty cough, sometimes gagging on it to the point that he vomits. He is full of cold and very snotty and we’ve had two days of him not eating anything. Yesterday morning he would eat a yogurt but since then he’s refused all food. He’s still drinking some milk, not as much as normal but he’s having plenty of water. His front gums are also swollen because his top two teeth are coming through so I think this is contributing to everything. His temperature is slightly raised, it’s 37.1 but not been higher than this. I know there’s no point taking him to the doctors because there’s so sign of an infection and he can breathe ok but does anyone have any advice on what I can do about this cough or anything that might help him?He is FULL of mucus and feeling so sorry for himself and when he doesn’t eat and drinks less milk like this I get so, so anxious. If your baby had something similar when did it pass?

Oh my goodness I could've written this EXACT post (bar my baby being 6 months old). I really feel your pain. Our baby has been poorly for a few days and last night didn't actually sleep more than a few 20 minute spells here and there. He's congested and full of mucus. His cough is awful and he's vomiting every time he's having milk (not yet weaned). His front teeth have also come through over the last two days.

These are the things we're doing (to very little effect if I'm being honest - of our three really bad nights last night was the worst one yet)

Ashton & Parsons powder on his gums
Feeding little and often
Alternating giving calpol and calprofen
Using baby vaporub on chest, back and feet
Putting baby olbas oil in a diffuser and letting it fill his room
Letting the shower run on hot and spending ten minutes sitting in the bathroom amongst the steam
Elevating his cot mattress

I think symptoms usually last 4-10 days

Thank you @GreenGrove - he seems a little better today but still doesn’t want any food. Hopefully we will be over the worst by Christmas.
