Hi

How often can my 10 year old take this?

He had some 4 hours ago and is at 38.5.

Thank you

I would be offering ibuprofen now and trying calpol again in a couple of hours

It's still 4 hourly, no more than 4 doses in 24 hours. Hope he's better soon

boble1 · 17/12/2019 20:49

Thank you so much.

His temperature is slightly better now, 38.1.

Actually, I was wondering if it could be anything to do with the nasal flu spray?

He had it on Friday, runny nose on Monday and a headache at lunchtime, then felt really awful Monday afternoon in the queue to see Father Christmas of all places! He said his vision went funny and he felt sick and was so so pale.

He's feeling better now, hasn't eaten all day - just laid on the sofa.

Hi OP

My DS and DD had exactly this last week. High temps (went up to 40 and didn't come down very much with meds), headaches, dizziness, sore throats, tummy aches, no appetite, and then coughs and colds.

I'm trying really hard not to suspect a link with the nasal flu spray, but DC had the spray on a Wednesday and were both ill by Sunday / Monday. In fact, literally half their primary school were off with the same thing that week (all had the flu spray).

I guess it's probably just a nasty virus that's going around. Hope your DS is better soon. My DC were off for 4 days and are still coughing now. Remember, you don't need to give meds for fever alone -- just to ease pain. Fever is the body's way of fighting off the virus. I only give meds for fever if it's approaching 40 or if they have pain/discomfort. 38.5 is only a slight fever and not cause for concern in itself.

Hi

Thank you @BlackInk

He took some Calpol before we went to bed, he vomited the first 5ml up but was OK with the second spoonful.

I was still up at 1am and heard him be violently sick - he was such a sweetheart though, he jumped out of bed and was sick all over the floor and totally missed the bed! Thankfully, we have laminate flooring.

I've never seen so much sick.

He still is a bit hot today, no appetite and laying on the sofa. When I phoned the school, they said there are a few off in his class with temperatures.

Probably just a coincidental nasty winter virus.

I hope you all feel better very soon

xx

When my son has a temp I alternate between calpol then 2 hours after nurofen. The doctor told me nuerofen is more successful at bringing temperatures in kids down, hope your sons better soon Flowers

@nearlyfinished1moreyear

Thank you.

He said the Calpol tasted "lumpy"?

He did drink quite a lot of strong blackcurrant squash to wash it down as he doesn't like medicine.

xx
