Shingles?

Just been to the doctors with my 6yr old and the doc says he’s got shingles. I am not convinced it is, main reason he’s not been poorly and no temperature. The rash in his nose has not been oozing anything, it was 3 little spots but now there are 7 little scans, I will try to put a pic on comments. Any advice? He’s also had a couple of ulcers in his mouth but they said not hand foot and mouth. I’m really worried :(

I can’t load a pic as I am new, it meant to say scans on his nose not in 🙈

Are you sure it's not chickenpox?

My friend's 7yo was diagnosed with shingles a few weeks ago. She only had about 7 blistery spots, no temp, didn't feel unwell. Her spots were on her torso tho, not in her nose 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes he’s had chicken pox and they are just literally on his nose.. he said herpes first and I was like wtf!! But he then said shingles it’s the same thing. I’m literally freaking out.. ginger can I pm you a pic to see if it looked the same?

was he poorly in last few days though?
DD had shingles aged 3, I was suprised as she had not had chicken pox, but she has had exposure to it so must have picked up the virus with no symptoms. She was very grizzly for no obvious reasons in the days leading up to the spots appearing.
Dr will be saying shingles because if the localised nature of the spots.
If LO is not poorly, no need to worry, surely.

Yes you’re right, I’d say he was a bit run down and had the ulcer so I thought it was just that.. how long to the spots last? Is there anything I can give him apart from the aciclover the docs have given him?

the acyclovir will help him get over the virus, if he's not poorly no need for anything else- I can't remember how long the spots last, not long I think-

I had it when I was in primary school. Random collection of spots on one side of tummy, mum took me to docs for cream to be told it was shingles! No symptoms at all. I had to be off school for a week (not sure if that's very outdated advice) and I remember being incredibly bored as there was nothing wrong with me.

I had to be tested for diabetes and have bloods tested as had shingles plus impetigo plus some boils around the same time and they were a bit concerned about my immune system but all came back fine. Funnily enough both me and my dad go through periods of being run down and getting literally everything within a short timescale, he gets shingles in his eye everytime things get stressful at work.

Wouldn't really be poorly with it. Entirely possible to have shingles at that age, one of mine had it age 5!
Usually quite obvious as they are fluid filled blisters, and always on one side of the body only, following a nerve. Can be sore, although sometimes not straight away

Amandapandax · 16/12/2019 20:51

They are on his nose so not really on one side of his body Grin
They are like holes in his face not filled with anything at the minute, maybe they will fill..wish I could put a pic on grrrr
They are starting to get sore so does sound like it
