Toddler won't stop wailing

He's 3, feels warm and is a little bit snotty. I took him to the GP earlier and they said it just looks viral and despite being warm he doesn't have a temperature, but is it normal for him to just constantly wail? He's never really been too unwell before so I don't know.

No rashes or anything that I can see, his ear is apparently slightly red inside but not looking like an ear infection.

He's had neurofen and calpol all day and last had some at about 18.30.

Can I do anything to help if this is actually normal?

No, I don't think that is normal. Especially if he's wailing in pain. Do you think that's why he's wailing?

Is he drinking? Eating? Weeing?

Do you have a thermometer?

Poor lamb, sounds miserable. What are you ooh options?

Winterdaysarehere · 11/12/2019 20:10

Ds5 loves a long bubble bath when he feels rubbish (he has asthma). Chance to tidy the bathroom while he soaks!

GummyGoddess · 11/12/2019 20:15

He's drinking a bit, has eaten 3 bananas and some chocolate and weeing a bit. I have a thermometer but it says he's only 37.5 so not really warm even though he feels it.

I don't know what the ooh options are, I've only used them when he was a few weeks old and he had a cold and I panicked. Just not sure if they can tell me anything other than the GP did already.

He won't want a bath, he doesn't want to be apart from DH at the moment and he's reluctant to get in the bath recently in case he has a hair wash.

Just going to call 111 if it's not normal, I just don't have any experience of him being really unwell yet.

Could he have a sore tummy bananas upset my little ones tummy if he hasn’t had toast or anything beforehand

And he has to eat before taking Nurofen too as that can give Tummy ache

My cousins little girl has to have sugar and colour free calpol as the colour makes her stomach hurt

It could be something different but just a thought

Newmumma83 · 11/12/2019 20:19

call 111 though can’t be too careful with little ones

Teachermaths · 11/12/2019 20:23

I'd say monitor him overnight and see. He's seen a GP and his temperature isn't crazily high.

Is he drinking much?

Karwomannghia · 11/12/2019 20:24

Maybe it has developed into an ear infection, is he saying it hurts? Can he be persuaded to drink a bit more?

legalseagull · 11/12/2019 20:33

My daughter has reoccurring inner ear infections and screams uncontrollably, especially at night when it's coming. The GP can only see that it's a little pink. All the nastiness is happening behind the ear drum and is only apparent when the drum perforates and puss comes out. I demand antibiotics at the first sign of a pink eardrum now. She's thankfully under the care of EN&T now so hopefully getting grommets soon.
I'd go back to the GP

DD1 was like this at 18 months old, she wouldn’t stop crying. Nothing helped, we took her to the OOH’s twice in a week. On the second visit they wanted to admit her as they could see she wasn’t right.

Anyway we took her home and the next day she came out with chicken pox and was fine after that.

GummyGoddess · 11/12/2019 20:53

He's not great with communication, he understands me but he won't communicate much back if he doesn't feel like it. He hasn't said anything hurts but he is very miserable.

I'm just waiting for a call back now for an ooh appointment. I suppose it could be chicken pox as he hasn't had it yet, and DH was prone to ear infections as a child. His little brother has already had a bad one that needed antibiotics.

He refused to eat before medicine, but it hasn't seemed to have given him a sore tummy before when he hasn't eaten around the same time.

He's a naturally pale child at the best of times, he's currently really pale even for him and he's hot and clammy with ice cold feet.

Hope you hear back from ooh soon. Poor little thing.

Embracelife · 11/12/2019 22:32

If you given nurofen and call the temp will be down but if he still feels hot and clammy take him to ooh or a and e if you feel he isnt right
May be ear infection

Karwomannghia · 12/12/2019 09:56

How is he going today?

GummyGoddess · 12/12/2019 16:28

He had an ooh appointment and was then sent to paediatric a&e for blood tests. He has a chest infection and is home now, he's feeling very sorry for himself but likes the bear that a&e gave him.
