8month old keeping Right leg bent? Help !

Elmo311 · 09/12/2019 14:58

Hi all,

My 8month old daughter doesn't (and seems to be unable to) extend her right leg fully.
If I hold her up to stand she will put her left foot down on the floor and her leg will straighten, but the right foot goes towards the left foot and not on the floor.

Developmentally she's rolling back to front, smilies a lot (but doesn't laugh) can sit up by herself. No crawling yet.

It's a while until our Dr's appointment and I'm worried!

Thanks to anyone who can help :)

Does she have a bouncer, what does she do in the bouncer with her leg

Elmo311 · 09/12/2019 15:12

She does have a bouncer, she does the same thing in the bouncer.

She does also sit like this in it, after she's bounced for a bit .

If you are worried take her to A & E, but if she isn't in pain or has any swelling I doubt they will do much. Speak to your health visitor, she may be able to get you a quicker appointment. Has your daughter been checked for dislocated hips? Do you have it in either of your families history?

Bluerussian · 09/12/2019 15:37

I'm sure it isn't anything serious, babies are all different, but do take her to your GP, don't wait for her routine check up. I hope you will soon be reassured.

@Nat6999 She doesn't seem in pain unless we try to extend her leg a few times and then she gets a bit upset/fed up!
We don't have a history of hip dysplasia in the family. She did have a hip scan at a few weeks old as they thought her hip was a 'bit colicky'

Clicky not colicky!

@Bluerussian thank you, I will definitely take her in for a check up.

Get her hips checked again, what she is showing lookslike all the signs of a dislocated hip, I was born with one, it took until I was one to get it diagnosed & I had a year either on traction or in a spica pot. It is a lot easier to treat nowadays but the sooner it is diagnosed the better, her having a click hip at birth should have been followed up more thoroughly, see your GP & don't let them fob you off.

Elmo311 · 09/12/2019 17:23

@Nat6999 thank you for that. I will definitely not let them fob me off that's for sure!

I would go straight to A&E an request an xray to rule out a fracture of the fibula.

Does she have any patches of darker (milky coffee color) skin? Does her leg appear slightly bent even when she is lying down so not weight bearing?

Elmo311 · 12/12/2019 20:09

@LeGrandBleu Hey, thanks for your comment but we've seen the Dr who just thinks that it's her muscles and that she may need physio. But we are waiting to see a paediatrician now.
