Possible infantile spasms - how long should we be waiting for eeg/mri?

Have been referred for eeg and mri following GP sending us to hospital last Wednesday. Appointment for mri has come through for 10 days time but no eeg appointment as yet. I'm worried sick

Oh you poor thing. Is the hospital you were sent to a paediatric specialist hospital?
At one point when my DS was little I was absolutely convinced he was having IS (major anxiety). All the googling I did basically said that an EEG needed to be done there and then x

No, and they don't do Eeg's there hence waiting for an appointment 😕

Where is your nearest hospital that has a children’s A&E? I’d probably present myself there!

It's crossed my mind! It feels wrong when there's an appointment being made but everything I've read also says eeg needs to be done immediately.

Have you taken a video of the episodes? The paediatric neurologist will probably find this helpful when you get to see them.

I’d contact your GP and ask them to chase up the EEG. Kids neurology is a tertiary service so referral etc is more complicated than into general paediatrics so may be worth a chase up.

Hope you’re doing ok x

from our 1st seizure - we waited 3 years for our eeg. One week after lo was prescribed anti seizure medicine. Lots of absences and a few other seizures inbetween, but having the last one on video was what got her finally medicated.

If it is suspected infantile spasms it is a medical Emergency. There is no 'I'll just refer you' bollocks.
You need to get to a children's tertiary a&e centre ASAP. They need an eeg as soon as practically possible and to start meds a few hours later to minimise any possible brain damage.
Your GP needs educating.

The GP sent us straight to hospital. Unfortunately the hospital we were sent to does not have eeg, hence the referral. After chasing it up yesterday it was done this afternoon. Technician said report would be with the consultant in 10 days - guessing we'd hear a lot sooner than that if anything shows?

Oh I’m so glad you got it sorted. Good luck

Apologies I misread the post. Glad you have the eeg. They need to read it urgently
