My 8yr old daughter became I'll quite suddenly yesterday, she complained of a sore head, and when I checked she had a temp of 38.4°c I gave the usual medication and she fell a sleep, I thought it's just a virus. She woke a few times during the night complaining of this sore head and her temp went up to 39.1°c, I managed to get it back down. Today she has constantly complained of this sore head and sore throat and feeling sick, she has been sick once, not eating but taking sips of water, shes in bed and again has woken up twice with a sore head to the point shes crying. Is this likely to be just a virus? Or should I be more calling nhs?

Have a look at this, if any symptoms match ones to worry about call 111.www.nhs.uk/conditions/fever-in-children/

You have my sympathies as it's awful when your child is poorly.
Hope you don't mind what seems like a daft question, but has she been for a wee in the last 24hrs?
The reason I ask is because it's been drummed into me by my GP that if a child hasn't been to the loo within the last 24 hrs, you need to seek medical attention pronto as it can mean the child is severely dehydrated & could lead to kidney problems or infection.
Hope I've not scared you but to be on the safe side it might be worth considering ringing 111.

She has been for a pee twice today, I feel awful for her, I could literally fry an egg on her back shes that hot. (Our local if u can call it that) ooh is a 40 minute drive and I dont want to drag her out in the rain all that way if there going to say give her calpol.

Op does she have a cough or body aches? Because the other symptoms of nausea, vomit, headache, fever sound like the flu to me. Which of course just needs to run its course but is an awful virus. Did she get a flu jab/spray this year? Not sure what age they give it up to for kids, I know the little ones get it as my 5yr old did at school.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 08/12/2019 07:38

I would say if you're concerned give 111 a call. The sore head would be the thing that would be concerning me to the extent that she's crying because of it - it could of course be a flu virus, but there isn't any harm in getting some advice.

Stupid question probably but does she have any rashes on her body that won't disappear under the tumbler test? Can she tolerate light and bend her neck?

Glad you've been seen OP. I'm in a similar boat with my 3 year old, day 4 now of high temps and lethargy, which picks up with nurofen/calpol and goes down again.

Will be taking him to GP tomorrow if we have another bad night. Suspect it's just a rubbishy cold than anything else.

Nogodsnomasters · 08/12/2019 19:16

Glad she got sorted and is already on the mend xx

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/12/2019 23:39

Another glad she got sorted although tonsillitis isn't nice and pleased to hear she's on the mend!

Londongirl86 · 09/12/2019 12:18

Poor thing. I have a child who suffers with tonsilitis. He's nearly two and had it five times and was in hospital with it once on top of pnunomia.

I always know he has it by his eyes. They glaze over. He has no energy. He won't eat and he barely wants to play. It's awful. Hope she is feeling loads better soon xxx
