Cough and fever for 7 days. Should I be worried

Dd (4.5) is having flu like symptoms for a week. She was sent home from school last Tuesday due to high temperature. And the temperature stayed high since then. On the first couple of days, it went up to 39.5. I had to use ibrofen to bring it down. Then it was like around 38 all the time. We give her two does of Calpol per day. She is very happy and active when the temperature is down. But it keeps going back up.

She got much better over the weekend. So we sent her back to school on Monday. But the teacher sent her home again this morning, saying she was pale and very tired. The temperature was still around 38. But after she got home and Calpol kicked in, she got back to her normal self.

Have seen a GP yesterday. GP wasn't concerned because the fever was mild and she was quite active, eating and drinking well. I'm a bit worried because she got a better initially. Recurring fever is not a good sign. She might have caught it from me. I had a fever for 6 days and a terrible cough just before her.

My 2yo just has this and has to go back to (different) GP to finally get told it was strep throat. Maybe get a second opinion?

I became ill last Monday - I haven't taken my temperature but I guess it was raised as I ached all over and couldn't feel warm - and I am still ill now, though I would say definitely not with a temperature now. I temp and just turned down some work today because I do not feel well enough to do anything more than absolutely necessary. I wouldn't worry unduly about your dd. There are some horrendous viruses going round and she must be exhausted from first term at school anyway, so a little extra time to recuperate is probably all she needs.

Thanks for the replies. I plan to keep her in until Friday. Hope she could be better by then. They are rehearsing for Nativity at school. My poor girl will miss most of itSad

Her throat looks fine, not too sore. But I'm tempted to see another GP or go to a&e. She's usuy a very healthy girl. The bugs going around are really nasty.
