DS is ok in the day but in the evening and at night he constantly gets up an goes to the loo, tonight about 10 times in an 2 hours. There is no UTI, Dr tested but didn’t see him. Said it could be constipation causing it but he is not especially constipated. Anyone else had experience of this?

Has he always been like that? My ds is similar and has an overactive bladder and a small bladder capacity. Constipation definitely makes his symptoms worse.

Has his blood sugar been checked? Needing to wee more often can be a sign of diabetes so its worth asking about that.

Could the doctor recheck for a UTI? I remember being in the maternity assessment unit and having a urine test that didnt quite meet the level of UTI but did at the GP practice when repeated the next day. Are there any other symptoms like pain when urinating?

This has only been in the last few weeks. I am going back to the doctor with him, it’s virtually impossible to get an appointment Sad.

Have you noticed any other signs like drinking excessively, weight loss or tiredness? I would ask for another all round check including blood sugar as its possible this could be type onr diabetes. Better to check and be sure

Also what colour is his urine and much much does he pee each time?

Apileofballyhoo · 24/11/2019 14:18

How do you know he's not constipated?

worriedaboutmygirl · 24/11/2019 14:21

He needs a finger prick blood test for type one diabetes. (Random not fasting, should be done and results given then and there). How is his appetite, weight and energy levels?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 24/11/2019 14:59

I asked him about the constipation, although I know 9yo don’t always tell the truth. His appetite, weight and energy is all unchanged. He is slim, but always has been.

Constipated doesn't just mean not having a daily poo, you can go daily and still be constipated. That was a surprise to me. DS was constipated despite going once or sometimes twice a day, with what seemed soft enough to me (sorry for TMI). He was quite little or I wouldn't have known what it looked like!

Basically it's not all making its way through and can lead to build up.

Diabetes test is a good call too.

I'd suggest anxiety. I used to do this as a child of a similar age - I was anxious.

lumpy76 · 24/11/2019 23:57

I'd be cool spidering what he may be anxious about...school, bullying, bed wetting, sleep, separation anxiety, nightmares.

Cool spidering = considering!!!
