Projectile vomiting at bedtime

There’s been a few threads on this but no definite answers.

Last two nights DD (9 months) has gone to bed with normal routine only to not settle, when we pick her up she then projectile vomits. It’s really thick and sticky and disgusting, not just milk!

She has a slight cold but is happy during the day, no temperature, eating well, having her bottles, no sick during the day. She has reflux but it’s been improving a lot since solids and reducing milk. She was VERY upset last night but is calmer with it tonight, still crying and still awake but not screaming with balled fists and being repeatedly sick.

Oh, and 4 teeth coming at once. But not super cranky during the day or anything, not taking painkillers, just a bit of hand in mouth and drooling. All the expert opinion things coming up on google say teething doesn’t make them vomit but from speaking to actual mums the reality seems different?!

She’s been on the same formula since birth, it’s the hipp anti reflux one.

I’m wondering if it might be too much food and milk at bedtime? But she’s been on this routine of proper dinner and milk for at least a month now and never unhappy before?!

Is she swallowing more mucus than usual due to her cold? That can irritate the stomach.

Could just be a bug - both of mine have had bugs where they only threw up at night for four nights. Most annoying! Every time I thought it was over...

Mine did this for weeks around age 11 months when the two front teeth were coming through.

I'm often sick with a cold as my stomach is really sensitive to mucous. Perhaps when she's lying down it's running down her throat more and triggering the vomit?

Have you tried propping up the head end of her cot a bit?

If it doesn't improve in next day or so I'd be tempted to see the GP. We had a run of random vomiting at night (always an hour or so after he'd gone to bed) and it turned out to be an ear infection. As soon as he started antibiotics it stopped.

I'd say it's the combination of extra saliva from teething and the mucus from the cold being swallowed. If she's well in herself I wouldn't be too concerned, just keep an eye on her
