Circumcision due to Ballinitis 3 year old

Hi mums (and dads and guardians), I'm just looking for reassurance really and any experiences! My just turned 3 year old keeps getting Ballinitis, recently he's had it 3 times in 7 weeks, he's now been referred to specialist and they want to circumcise him. I'm not saying no, as I want the best for him and can't keep letting him get infection and infection down there not fair for him to suffer! But I'm just distraught, I don't want him having surgery, the aftercare scares me to death, him going for the operation scares me to death! I know he'll be fine and I know children and babies go through way way worse and people have this done for religion reasons too, I'm just wanting some reassurance really, how was your little one at this age? How long was recovery? If anybody has been through this I'd be really grateful to hear from you! Thank you x

Hi, how have they been treating the ballinitis? When you see the consultant who will really examine his penis they might decide against surgery or take a wait and see approach which is currently what's happening with my ds5.

He was being treated with steroid cream for ballinitis, he'd had it 6 times in 12 months so average of every 8 weeks or there abouts. We were referred and saw a consultant in august who said at his age (was 4 at time of appointment) they prefer not to operate unless the penis is extremely inflamed, swollen and with discharge. He examined my son and showed us the areas of issue on him and told us to stop using the steroid cream as a) it's clearly not working and b) apparently sometimes it can make it worse. Advised us to use vaseline and taught my son some "exercises" that were age appropriate to do in the bath and while he's peeing. He's only had 1 bout of ballinitis since the appointment in 3 months which is an improvement, we were told to reassess the situation in a year's time if still having issues.

My friends nephew had the operation at age 7 and has really struggled with it, a lot of pain after, screaming/crying when needing dressings changed, being upset when needing to pee and holding in his urine, resulting in him being re-admitted to hospital for a catheter (sp?), it sounded horrible and my ds has autism and a really low pain threshold so I am extremely glad they said no surgery for now. I'll cross that bridge next year if it's needing crossed.

That's really useful to know thank you! He's not had the consultant appt yet so I'm hoping that will be the same outcome for us with no surgery, thank you! Glad to hear your son is improving, fingers crossed he keeps getting better and better with it!!! Oh that poor boy (your friends nephew) that's what my biggest fear is!!! I'll post back once we've had our appointment and let you know what they say! When he has the cream it clears up sooo fast, he's just had the cream this time previous 2 times he had oral antibiotics it just doesn't seem to stay away :(! Thank you for your input really appreciate it xxx

My brother was circumcised at 10. Was very painful and difficult after. Doc had told my mum to get it done earlier but she had refused.

Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait for the consultant appointment, and fingers crossed they don't deem it necessary. The exercises my son was taught seem to be helping so far, so I just hope it continues to improve, time will tell.

I know, when my friend described the situation with her nephew I was in a right flap knowing my ds would react the exact same because of his low pain threshold 🙈

My dh is circumsized but had it done as an 18 year old so could understand what was involved and was able to manage his pain.

Not sure if this is helpful but my DH was circumcised for recurrent balanitis at the age of three and he says he doesn’t remember at all
