Anyones child wear a headbrace?

Dd wears a headbrace. She wears it overnight and ideally for up to 13 hours a day.
Her skin is so chapped and sore, mainly on her chin. It's flaking off in parts and looks scaly. I've tried sudocrem, vaseline, aloe vera moisturiser and nothing works.
Has anyone had similar with their child? Any advice? Is it worthy of a doctors appointment do you think?.
We're due back at the ortho soon, but I've no idea what, if anything, they can do. Looking likely she'll be having it for a while yet. It's leading to teasing at school, which as a shiny new year 7 she's very keen to avoid.
Any advice? Thank you.

Yes I'd see a gp if its causing pain

GwenCooper81 · 06/11/2019 17:48

It's not so much pain as rubbing. It's got a soft inner bit but it's still catching her. I don't know if a steroid cream or something (??!) would help?. I feel awful for her, but the NHS being as it is I don't want to 'waste' an appointment. Thank you.

For teeth or a halo one? My cousin had a halo headbrace (like pic). He avoided going in public until it could come off.

Perhaps a barrier cream or vaseline might protect the skin from rubbling ?

GwenCooper81 · 06/11/2019 18:09

Exactly the one @dementedoixue has posted. I should have used the term headgear.. But I couldn't remember it lol. So, it's mainly the bottom section on her chin that's sore.

Sorry just re read your post!! Ignore my stupidity🙄

GwenCooper81 · 06/11/2019 18:10

I've tried vaseline but it's just not helping. It's so sore.

No worries lol. It's the first thing I tried.

Extra padding?

GwenCooper81 · 06/11/2019 18:16

I've tried a soft folded muslin remnant, nope it slipped around and still rubbed. The brace itself usually ends up upside down midway through the night too. Thank you.

A site online has said this:

Some patients have found that placingadditional cushion between the chin and the headgear is helpful (a cloth, gauze, trim a shoe insole to fit…our patients are creative!!).

GwenCooper81 · 06/11/2019 18:17

Thank you. I'll try again with something else to save her sore skin.
