My ds 12 has a bad overbite and his teeth are quite crooked it's really effecting his confidence now. He was referred to orthodontist 6 months ago and didn't get approved as his brushing wasn't perfect went back to dentist and he said to get him a good electric toothbrush which we did and cut out sweets and fizzy juice even flavoured water all together even dentist said about the difference went this morning to orthodontist and he wasn't very nice criticised my son the whole time said his brushing wasn't right and spoke over me the whole time said a cheeky comment and when I said excuse me he just kept talking . I don't know what else I can do I supervise his brushing no sweets dentist gave me a list of things with hidden sugar doesn't get them has any one else has experience with this or advice I asked him what else we could do and he just kept taking over me it's been put back another 6 months now and my sons worried he won't have them for starting secondary school.

Ask your dentist if they can recommend another orthodontist, maybe complain to the health trust?

The orthodontist is probably worried if his brushing is not great now a brace will make it more tricky and lead to decay. Have you tried disclosure tablets to focus his brushing? Can he see the hygienist in the interim? It won't be too late in 6 months time.

I completely get the worry about decay it was his horrible rude manner about it yes I think we may need a hygienist good suggestion yes I'm definitely going to ask to be referred to different one don't ever want to deal with that man again thank you for the suggestions.

Ds orthodontist consultant (he was referred to hospital) was a complete cow, both to patients and her staff. However once he was finally accepted (think there were two if not three refusals as he was a reluctant patient) we fortunately saw little of her but rather a series of German interns who were lovely and it almost felt as if staff avoided calling her for an opinion if someone else was around!
