Are these headlice eggs or am I just being paranoid? He said his heads not itchy or anything

Sorry if the pictures are terrible, they're the best I could get

Can you crack them?

SmartyPants0 · 03/11/2019 09:32

Are they glued to the hair shaft and difficult to remove? If so they look like the hatched eggs.

Hjwk · 03/11/2019 09:32

No, they're tiny as well and don't really want to budge from his hair haha. He's not in a very good mood with me now because I keep messing with his hair ha

Looking at the picture of the hair, the one at the top looks the clearest and seems to be a nit, yes.

You should see a letterman of them from the rout attaching themselves down the length of the strands. Check behind ears as they tend to hang out in the warm areas a lot

Hjwk · 03/11/2019 09:33

If they were hatched does that mean I'd see the actual lice? I can only see these egg things. This is all new to me and it's making me itch now!

wizzywizzed · 03/11/2019 09:35

I gonna go for yes. My Dd got them after getting a hair wrap thing in Spain and had them for about 3 weeks without itching or any other symptoms before we noticed. Best to get yourself some treatment

picklemepopcorn · 03/11/2019 09:35

If it's white it's hatched- but the babies are almost see through and very tiny. They may also have moved on to someone else.

If it's a nit, it's hard to remove- you have to really scrape to get it off.

Wolfiefan · 03/11/2019 09:35

Apparently not everyone itches with nits.
If you’re unsure then get a nitty gritty comb and plenty of cheap conditioner and follow the instructions carefully. You’ll know for certain then.

Hjwk · 03/11/2019 09:38

Thanks everyone. I'll nip out this morning and get stuff to treat them. Best check his fidget of a sister too!

SeaSidePebbles · 03/11/2019 09:39

Cover his hair in conditioner and comb through with a nit comb. If you haven’t got one, just a normal comb will do, but run the comb through some cotton from your make up remover pads.
They’re normally More visible at the nape of the neck and behind the ears.
DD’s had them in primary, too many times.

These are my son's nits from earlier this week!! I couldn't see any lice until I combed with the nitty gritty and then only found 2.

@Glitterthrough

You have got to be joking Hmm

That's one of the funniest things I have ever seen on Mumsnet

£20 to detect nits and £60 - £90 to remove them!

OP, conditioner and a nit comb will do the trick for less then a fiver Grin

It doesn't matter whether OP goes or not - my comment was about the extortion. What a joke.

Also, how can anyone say for sure over the phone Confused

Freetodowhatiwant · 03/11/2019 21:00

We all had them not so long ago and yes they did look like that. However I tried three different chemist-bought potions and none of them worked for any more than a few days, the little bastards always returned. A friend of mine, hairdresser, told me that they are often resistant these days and the best thing to do is use conditioner and a comb as follows. It's the only thing that finally worked:

Buy a big bottle of any old conditioner
Completely coat dry hair with said conditioner
Comb through every bit with one of those nit combs
Repeat every day for 3 days (important)

It finally worked!

Glitterthrough · 03/11/2019 21:05

It’s her job. It’s really easy for her to go through the steps of identifying if something is an egg or not over the phone.

BlobbyTheLump · 03/11/2019 21:17

Check the nape of his neck OP.

That seems to be where any live ones like to congregate. Little buggers.

Handsnotwands · 03/11/2019 21:18

Are nits always white?

DD’s head was itchy. I can see minute flecks of black stuck to hairs here and there

I treated and combed her today and found three, what I thought were nits, but they were dark coloured.

And if not nits WTF were they???Shock

Handsnotwands · 03/11/2019 21:20

*minute

Mumdiva99 · 03/11/2019 21:38

@Handsnotwands the lice (the actual animals) are dark. It's the eggs (nits) which are white.

Handsnotwands · 03/11/2019 21:41

Thanks MumDiva. I’m Unexpectedly glad it’s only nits Grin

Seaweed42 · 06/11/2019 10:30

They are black/dark brown as well. Get the Hedrin spray overnight lotion. New eggs are laid close to the head. Put the lotion in as directed. Let it dry. It should wash out pretty easily next day.
Then section the hair with clips and comb through each section. Rub the comb each time on white tissue and check for any little black things - that are moving!
Pull any stuck eggs off the hairs with your fingernails.
In 3 days time repeat this process with the lotion. If any new eggs are there, they will be very close to the head. Try to do the head checking in daylight at a window and a pair of reading glasses or magnifying glass helps to see if any are moving on the tissue. It'd tedious but if you do it right they should all be gone in two goes, if not one.

Seaweed42 · 06/11/2019 10:31

*using a plastic nit comb.
