Can't stop coughing

DD is recovering from tonsillitis. She has been asleep for around an hour but literally can't stop coughing. It's a dry, throaty cough. I've been like this myself before, when you get into a cycle of coughing and just can't stop. She's had a warm drink and a spoonful of honey. Neither have helped. I'm at my wits end what else to do with her.

Vicks on the soles of her feet, then put a pair of socks on her. Weird but seems to work.

Try nerofen / ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation in her lungs. DD and I have just recovered from bronchitis that lasted 3 weeks. Ibuprofen was the only thing that helped.

Have u got a humidifier you could use? They work great for dry coughs. The vicks on feet works for some but never did on my ds, worth a shot though. How old is she? Can you prop her up higher on some extra pillows so she's not as flat? Also I'd try a 2nd spoonful of honey as sometimes the first just doesn't cut it for a real tickly one, I use it myself for coughs and sometimes do need one more tea spoon of it.

How old is she? I recommend Pholcodine Linctus if she's over 12. It's derived from opioid but has no analgesic effect (it's a non productive cough suppressant you can get at pharmacy counter). That, humid air if you can leave a window open or have a humidifier and an extra pillow to prop up the head.

Could you try propping her up a bit with an extra pillow? Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks all. She's four.

I gave her some nurofen and sat her up on my knee for 30 mins and she seems to be coughing slightly less now. I'm hoping once she's in a deep sleep it might stop.
